Laptop Confidential

Every time I bring you into my bed, I feel guilty. I know I’m putting health at risk, but I can’t seem to give you up, laptop. I know you’re leaving toxic chemicals between my sheets – almost certainly toxic flame retardants, but who knows what else? I work hard to keep myself safe from toxic products. I eat organic food, cook in glass and stainless steel, use natural and organic soaps and rarely wear makeup. But laptop, I can’t give you up.

They say I should wash my hands after touching you, but we both know, I love to e-mail while watching TV and snacking on my organic popcorn from my bed. They say I should make sure I buy PBDE free – and I want to, but let’s be honest, this thing between you and me has been going on for years – long before I knew to ask about your PDBE status. Plus, I like your fast processor and fun features.

There is no safe way to keep doing what we’re doing, unless Congress acts to make products like you safe…
