Like any Mom, I want the best for my children. And when it comes to health – our most important asset – I want to protect it! So, when my sons were little, I was eager to kill every germ and bug that came into our home and was always liberal with the leading brand disinfectant spray, wipes, soap, etc… I thought I was being a great Mom, but I was inadvertently “poisoning” my son. Through my use of “common household cleaners,” I was increasing the toxicity of my home and that of my family – most notably that of my children. Obviously, not the best course of actions for keeping my family healthy!
Keep in mind that pound for pound of body weight, children drink more water, eat more food, and breathe more air than adults. The implication of this is that children will have substantially heavier exposures than adults to any toxins that are present in water, food, or air.
The result of me doing “what my Mom did” and relying on cute, happy baby marketing campaigns precluded me from discovering the “real dirt on clean.” In turn, my son Watson suffered from numerous respiratory challenges. Of course, I worked with our Pediatrician to treat his symptoms, because I still hadn’t figured out that the “symptoms” would go away if the “problem” went away too. For two and a half years, he received antibiotics, daily breathing treatments, and allergy medications.
Then, one day, I heard a Mom share a similar story. The difference – her son was “recovering” based on her decisions to detoxify their home. The reality- she had discovered the “root cause” – the real dirt on clean- and made a choice not to continue to cover it up by just treating the symptoms. They made a conscious decision to switch out their ammonia based window cleaners, their toxic multi-purposes cleaners and air fresheners for green alternatives. And while I thought – could it be that simple? In the next thought, I realized there was nothing to lose but a whole lot to gain.
It’s been over 34 months since making a conscious decision to give up my conventional cleaners. Cleaners that I loved so much because admittedly I was – and am – a germaphobe. Little did I know that it would be the best 34 months of my life. Because during this time, Watson has not had one breathing treatment and his respiratory challenges have improved so significantly that he has not had any antibiotics and/or allergy medications. Instead, he has enjoyed the benefits of great health naturally.
It is with that joyful outcome and my innate love of nature, that I felt compelled to leave corporate America after 13 years and pursue a greater passion – a passion to help others live well, simplify and go green. Since October 2007, I have pursued this passion with great zeal. And the outcome has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. The testimonials are plentiful yet the opportunities are even more abundant.
My commitment is to educate and empower consumers and to join them on their journey in making better more informed choices for their health, their family and the planet.
