For several years, my wife Gigi was suffering from sinus problems. The headaches and congestion as well as the drowsiness that came from taking Benadryl was becoming overwhelming. The doctor told us they could do an operation but that would only give her temporary relief. We then tried acupuncture treatments but again, it only provided a temporary relief and was getting to be very expensive. So with no real solution, we just continued to live with the problem.
One morning I woke up with my body odor smelling like bleach. I was alarmed and nervous because of how strong the odor was. The day before, I cleaned my white grout floors with bleach. What I did not realize was that I had inhaled so much of it that it was being excreted from my skin. This experience started me on a path that lead me to look into the affects chemical cleaners could have on your body. After much research, I decided to replace my cleaning products with safer alternatives. I also got rid of my carpet fresh, scented candles and fabric softeners. With just these small changes, my wife’s sinuses started getting better. It was then that I made the connection that the reason my wife was so sick was because she was being exposed to all kinds of toxic chemicals.
Our toxic discovery lead me to realize that there are hundreds of thousands of people who are sick from the products they are using to clean and freshen their homes. The sad part is, like us, they have no clue why they are getting sick.
For this reason, I support the effort to get congress to change the laws in order to protect people from these silent toxic killers.
